His death was already predetermined, so then there was no room for betrayal. For any betrayal requires the element of trust based on ignorance. About the Gospel of Judas

The Gospel of Judas, is an ancient esoteric Christian text dated to at least as early as 180 AD when it was denounced as heresy by the Christian priest Irenaus in his work “Against Heresies”. It was one of many esoteric Christian texts which were banned by the early Church, never allowed into the Bible, and disappeared for nearly two thousand years. So named because it is a Gospel written from the point of view of Judas, it begins “The secret account of the revelation that Jesus spoke in conversation with Judas Iscariot during a week three days before he celebrated Passover.”

When its English translation was released for the first time in 2006 by National Geographic (after the only known surviving ancient copy of it resurfaced in the 1970s) it challenged long held orthodox beliefs about the character of Judas, as the ancient text revealed that Jesus had actually arranged the betrayal with Judas, an advanced disciple, as part of a divine plan for his life.

Not only that, but it also challenged the mainstream interpretation of Jesus’s teachings. The Gospel of Judas shows that Jesus had not only planned to leave behind a spiritual teaching in his words, but also through the events of his own life – confirming the esoteric understanding mystics have had about Jesus’s life since the time of the disciples who received this more advanced teaching.

Frieda Nussberger-Tchacos, the antiquities dealer who decided to rescue the deteriorating text (resulting in the text being named Codex Tchacos after her), said she felt Judas himself impelling her to bring his story to the world. Full of incredible wisdom, the Gospel of Judas has emerged through centuries of suppression to give us a much richer and more complete picture of what happened all that time ago, and tell us that there is a much deeper and more profound side to Jesus’s teachings which can be explored and experienced.
